Creating Therapy Niagara…
My story & the conception…
It all started in Grade 8 when my best friend at the time developed an eating disorder and I could not understand why my beautiful best friend would want to suffer like that.
That started the direction of wanting to know why people do what they do and how to help. Add in family situations and volunteering at various agencies, my curiosity for people and mindset grew.
After my undergrad in Psychology and Women's studies, I came back home to Niagara and did my post grad in Social Service Work which led to two placements: YWCA Women's Shelter and Withdrawal Management Centre (aka Detox). I then worked at the YWCA as a Women's Advocate and then a Program Worker at Withdrawal Management Centre. My passion and skills grew for helping people and growing inside the therapeutic world.
Then I pursed my Masters of Counselling Psychology while working at Detox. I did my 8 month practicum at the Hope Centre giving free psychotherapy to those who could not afford it. I moved away for a time to Brampton and worked within an Independent Contractor position for a short time. I soon became home-sick and moved back to where my heart is…
I wanted to spread my own strategies, stories and help as many people as possible and my ideas in my own practise began to soar. During my Masters, COVID had hit and I had quickly learned that virtual psychotherapy does work and is important to provide in the therapeutic world alongside in-person services… But first, I wanted to create a safe haven and peaceful place for people to reach out where they feel most comfortable first - in their own homes.
Soon came the concept of Therapy Niagara being brought to life and now here we are…
In the future, we will grow to offer more services and hope to help many others find their peace + mind.
